If you’re like me, there is great satisfaction in going through one of you social media feeds and coming across a scroll stopping image. If you aren’t familiar with the term, a scroll stopper is exactly what is sounds like: a post that you stop scrolling for because the image or text speaks to you. It’s something that you feel a connection with and need to stop to inspect further. For me, it’s usually prompted by an appealing visual; a lure of lifestyle or content that I connect with.
My niche is all about celebration and connection over vintage and antiques so the images that are scroll stoppers for me are related to that style of content. Some of the scroll stoppers I come across (as evidenced by my Pinterest board categories) have overarching themes of travel, architecture, gardening and interior design but you will notice, they all have in common one thing: they are also related to the vintage aesthetic.
Below are a few recent images I came across on Instagram, including the reason why I chose them. If you are looking for a series of satisfying pics, I’ve gathered a collection of them for you. Leave a comment if you agree/ disagree or have your own take on scroll stoppers, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
One of the things I enjoy the most about scroll stoppers are the feelings they evoke when I see them. The photo above has a sense of casual luxury. No big deal, I’m just eating goulash out of this fancy serving bowl and I have plants and a beautiful oil painting right there. I will sit here and think about life. You see how wonderful it would be to live in this photo? Scroll stopper!
Look at how great this room is. If you are a lover of maximalist interior design, you would appreciate this. To boot, random flowers and antiques are scattered about and the owner has found a creative use for their bookshelves: doubling as a place to hang art. I spy towards the background a curtain being used in lieu of a door. Its that creative eye for beautifying a space with unconventional uses and placement of pieces that make this photo a showstopper for me. It’s that I dont care but I care very much and everything I do is a whole look vibe.
Ok that’s wallpaper right? I assume someone didnt just buy an old house and say, you know what, leave the peeling and dirt on the walls but lets put in what is obviously custom countertops and cabinets and add all of this amazing china which we will half leave out at all times. If it’s wallpaper, I want it – I NEED IT. It speaks to me and the romance of having a simple yet luxurious life in the Cotswalds in England. The red cabinet is the scroll stopper though. I cant even begin to imagine how rare and pricey finding that out in the wild would be. I’m a sucker for chippy furniture and this piece would be a once in a lifetime find for anyone.
How great is this person’s ability to collect things that are different yet in the same, vibrant color family? Each on their own, I probably would pass on – it’s not my style per se – the colors wouldnt speak to me, etc. As a vignette though, HOLY MOLY. That is a sight to behold. In addition to that, they have added these gorgeous flower arrangements that bring a bit of nature in and further compliment the excellence in highlighting this amazing and well thought out collection.
One of the things I really enjoy (if you have caught on to a theme here) is that a scroll stopper to me allows me to connect to the photo. It sparks creativity, insiration or my imagination. This photo is relatively simple in comparison to the others but I still think it’s amazing. Anything miniature is ADORABLE. I don’t know what it is, maybe a throwback to my obsession with doll houses when I was a little girl, or just that little things in general are cute and precious. The person who styled this photo clearly agrees with me and theyve stylishly set their soldiers on a mission across the shelf while the rest of their treasures sit elegantly in the muffled background to truly let these guys shine. Mini scroll stoppers!
Whatever your aesthetic or preference, having a feed or board full of content creators, sharers and community of people who share your passion is a sure fire was to bring a smile to your face. May you have the good fortune to stumble on scroll stoppers along the way to lead your imagination to great heights!
